Become an Open SUNY COTE Fellow

Step 1) Join the COTE Community of Practice 

Tips for choosing your role:

  • “Interested” means you want to be informed about COTE activities. This role is automatically approved.
  • “Experienced” means you have experience in instructional design and/or in supporting online teaching faculty and would like to be involved in supporting others by engaging in professional development activities. This role is automatically approved.
  • “Expert Instructional Designer,” “Exemplar, Coach and Mentor,” and “Innovator/Researcher” roles are all reviewed by the COTE Community team for alignment of experience and background to each role before approval is sent.
  • You will receive notification when you have been approved as a COTE Fellow.

Step 2) Participate in the COTE Online Networking Community

  • You are asked to create a profile for yourself when your request to join is accepted.

After signing up for the COTE Community, you can join the COTE Community Call group, which is for instructional designers across SUNY:

As part of the Community Call Group, you can:

  • create new Discussion forums;
  • share documents and links;
  • use the Comments wall.
  • You can also configure your options for receiving e-mail or RSS feed from your Groups in your profile: choose My Page, Settings, Email.
  • As part of of the overall COTE Community, you can also request to add a new group by going to the Group page and clicking the Add button.

Step 3) Sharing Best Practices

  • You can share best practice documents and other files as attachments to discussion posts and comment in the COTE Community Call Group.
  • In this group, there is also a page Librarian Community of Practice. The administrator for this page is Laura K. Murray of OLIS and she will keep the page populated with submission from the community.
